What is Varicosele?

Varicosele is a disease that occurs in 15% of the male population, with 40% in infertile males. Testicles (testes) are surrounded by expanded varicose veins. Normally, the temperature of the testes is 1 to 2°C lower than the body temperature. Complete semen production is possible only at this temperature. Testes surrounded by varicose veins however have the same temperature as that of the body, resulting in the impairment of sperm (semen) reproduction. In addition, hormones secreted by the adrenal glands end up in the testes due to reverse current, thus, affecting the reproduction of sperms. Operation is the definitive cure of the varicose vein. Varicose veins that cannot be cured by surgery are cancelled.

What is the post operative improvement range?

The number and quality of the sperms (semen) improves at 60-70%. Fertility also improves at 40%.

Normally, sperms (semen) in the testis are produced in 74 days. Therefore, the positive effects of the surgery will become noticeable after 3 months at minimum.

There is a 5–10% possibility of post operative hydrocele (fluid accumulation around the testicle). 10% may require operation.

10% of the patients may experience recurrence (reoccurrence of the disease) at the distant future.

Pain in the testes may not relieve after operation.
