Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) Diagnosis and Treatment

We call babies born before 37 weeks premature babies. The most important eye problem seen in preterm babies is Permatized Retinopathy (ROP). The retina cannot receive full oxygen due to vessels that have not completed their development due to premature birth, and abnormal harmful new vessels are formed. This leads to consequences such as bleeding, swelling and shrinkage in the retinal layer. If left untreated, “retinopathy of prematurity” (ROP) occurs, which completely impairs vision and is one of the most important eye problems of premature babies. For this reason, early diagnosis and treatment of retinopathy is very important.
